ICAR- KVK- Ri-Bhoi, ICAR (RC) for NEH Region, Umiam had successfully organized and celebrated the “Ginger Festival cum Awareness programme on Organic Ginger production” on 17th March, 2025 at Tyrso Village under “Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week (KSSW)” (17th to 21st March 2025)” of ICAR- KVK Ri-Bhoi. The event aims to motivate, attract and retain the agriculture by the Farmers, Farm Women and Rural Youths in the District to enhance income and improve livelihood. Sri. Kynjohlang Rangtong, Hon’ble MDC, Mawhati, Sri Aiboklang Saring, Sardar Mawlasnai, Mrs. Iohilut Lyndoh, President, FPO, Tyrso, under CBBO ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi had participated in the programme. Around 80 numbers of farmers, farm women and Rural Youths and about 15 numbers of officials from ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi, ICAR (RC) for NEHR, Umiam had participated in the programme. Dr. Popiha Bordoloi, SMS (Soil Science), Organizing Secretary of the programme gave her welcome address & highlights the programme KSSW and gave a Lecture on ‘Organic Ginger cultivation in Doubling Farmers Income’. She expressed her heartiest thanks and gratefulness to all the dignitaries and Farmers of FPO, Tyrso, for their keen interest of participation on the programme. Mrs. Iohilut Lyndoh, President, FPO, Tyrso, under CBBO ICAR-KVK Ribhoi had elaborate the Role of FPO for Socio Economic Development in her Talk. Sri. Kynjohlang Rangtong Hon’ble MDC, Mawhati had encouraged the Farmers to do the cultivation of organic Ginger commercially and also expressed his concern about the control of soil degradation for sustainability of soil and enhancement of crop productivity in the Mawhati area. Dr. Mokidul Islam, Principal Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK, Ri Bhoi, Chairman of the programme had addressed the gathering and he talked about the activities of ICAR- KVK RiBhoi and given his lecture on soil conservation and crop productivity enhancement through Organic Practices. Latter Farmers Scientist Interaction progamme was held. An Exhibition was conducted to display the products of different SHG’s and FPO as a part of Ginger Festival covering 6 stalls, which include the Ginger processed products and different varieties of Ginger were displayed and sold. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Shri Bankitkupar Mukhim, SMS (Fishery Science), ICAR- KVK Ri Bhoi.
